Former Omaha mayor and current Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle says he's considering a run against Dave Heineman for governor.
"I feel like it's politics as usual," Boyle said. "We're just drifting, going from one crisis to the next.
"I think I could do something to straighten out the mess."
Boyle said he would need to make up his mind by February, in time for the deadline to file for candidacy. Boyle has been involved in politics for more than 35 years. He served as Douglas County election commissioner from 1971 to 1979.
He was elected mayor in 1981 and re-elected in 1985, but was recalled from office in 1987 -- primarily over a dispute with his police chief. He ran again for mayor in 1989 and governor in 1990.
