In addition to being a restaurateur and art gallery owner, Robert Gilmer is also a passionate photographer.
So it’s no surprise that Gilmer’s RNG Gallery — situated in the Dixie Quicks restaurant — is devoting its biggest show of the year to photography.
More than 100 black-and-white and color photographs are on display.
Most of the photographers are familiar to Omaha-area art lovers.
Larry Ferguson has contributed a couple of photos from Antarctica. “Blue Veined Iceberg,” an archival pigment print, highlights the beautiful blue streaks that crisscross an iceberg. “Chinstrap Penguin,” which shows a solitary bird on a rocky outcrop, conveys the extraordinary isolation of this frozen continent.
Don Doll’s color photographs from Africa look like National Geographic prints. “Girl With a Bowl” depicts a pensive young woman holding an empty bowl. Hunger is the photo’s clear theme. “Reading Under a Tree” shows children with a blackboard standing under a tree. Hunger for knowledge is the motif here.
David Radler has a number of expressive portraits in the show. “Bella” shows a young girl with unruly hair looking contemplatively at the camera lens. “Hannah” features a little girl at the beach, her face and hands covered with sand.
Kat Moser’s “Secret Body” is one of the exhibit’s most sensuous photos. It shows a nude surrounded by lilies.
Gilmer added some his photos to the show, including “Cave,” a photo of artist Sean Ward’s installation currently on display at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts.
The exhibit runs through Dec. 26.
