HASTINGS — The mobile home park where a fire claimed three lives Tuesday morning was the site of a fatal fire five years ago.
Hastings Fire Chief Kent Gilbert said a fire killed one person at the Nebraskan Trailer Court, also known as the Nebraskaland Trailer Park, in 2004.
According to the Adams County Attorney’s Office, Gumaro Ruiz Walters, 6, and Angelita Sanchez Walters, nearly 10 months, died in this week’s fire. Based on the investigation by the Hastings Police Department, the third victim is Jose Tovan Alcaida, 22, of Minneapolis, according to the Adams County attorney.
Lotosha Walters, 27, and Silvia Arrelano Walters, 3, were hospitalized at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln, according to the Adams County attorney. Lotosha Walters is in good condition and could soon be released. Silvia Walters remains in critical condition, said Jo Miller, a St. Elizabeth’s spokeswoman.
Leticia Dominguez Walters, who will be 5 on Jan. 3, was treated and released from Mary Lanning Hospital following the fire.
The fire was reported at 6:36 a.m. Tuesday. Gilbert said the mobile home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, so they were unable to enter the structure.
Two of the survivors were out of the trailer when firefighters got to the scene and a third was passed through a window, he said.
