OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after she drank enough whiskey to become incoherent.
A news release from Nebraska U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg’s office says Wakaja Harden of Winnebago was convicted Thursday.
Prosecutors say the 20-year-old Harden picked up the girl at her home and gave her whiskey on July 1, 2008. Witnesses described seeing the girl stagger before Harden slung her over his shoulder and took her out into a field.
When police arrived, Harden was getting dressed while the girl remained unconscious and naked. Harden told police the girl had consented to sex, but officials determined she was far too intoxicated to give her consent.
Harden is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23.
