Clerk keeps gift cards, police say

A clerk at an Omaha Super Target has been accused of slipping customers inactive gift cards, while keeping their activated cards for herself.

The store's surveillance cameras also spotted the 18-year-old clerk ringing up merchandise, then concealing the items rather than putting them into customers' sacks.

The Super Target at 12500 K Plaza called Omaha police after customers complained about their inactive gift cards and missing merchandise. The store's loss prevention officer turned surveillance cameras on the clerk to videotape her activities, according to the police report.

The clerk is accused of carrying out the thefts between Nov. 14 and Dec. 7. Police were notified on Dec. 10.

The clerk admitted her wrongdoing to officers, according the police report, and was cited and released on suspicion of theft by deception.
