So You Know

Wait winds down for ‘Up in the Air'

Curious about all the buzz for “Up in the Air”? Well, you don't have to wait long to find out. The film that was partly shot in Omaha, stars George Clooney and is a Golden Globe darling opens Friday. In the film, Clooney finds his life “Up in the Air” after Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick make him rethink his rootless existence as a corporate expert in laying people off.

Elementary issues, my dear Watson

If you're looking for Christmas cheer at the cinema, you may be in for a surprise. It's not all warm glow on the big screen Friday. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law try to catch a violent serial killer in “Sherlock Holmes.” Daniel Day-Lewis is a movie director in trouble with the many women in his life in the musical “Nine.” And divorcee Meryl Streep has a fling with her remarried ex, Alec Baldwin, in “It's Complicated.” Look for reviews of all three in Friday Living.

Oberst show is sold out

Please don't cry. Please don't pout. But the Conor Oberst show is sold out. Those lucky enough to have tickets can watch Omaha's indie icon perform with Renee Ledesma Hoover and Simon Joyner at the Waiting Room on Tuesday.

Find a video with ease

It calls itself the “music video revolution.” It's Vevo.com, a music video site from the folks at YouTube, who partnered with Sony, Universal and EMI (three of the four biggest record labels) to put high-quality, legitimate copies of videos on the Web. It's not that much different from YouTube, really, but it will save you hours of sifting through weird fan tributes in order to find a legitimate copy of Kid Cudi's “Pursuit of Happiness.”

Last day for this Christmas gift

It's last call for the Omaha Symphony's annual Christmas show. Broadway stars Tiffany Haas (“Wicked”), Peter Lockyer (“Les Miserables”) and Gary Mauer and Elizabeth Southard (both of “Phantom of the Opera”) appear in this performance. Concerts are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today at the Holland Performing Arts Center.

For rockin' gamers and fantasy lovers

Get those thumbs ready. Two big video games come out this week. “Guitar Hero Van Halen” brings the rockers' music to the gaming world. “Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers” is yet another chapter in the long history of that series.

Some aliens, some laughs

Laughs meet sci-fi at the video store this week. The low-budget alien flick “District 9” overshot expectations in theaters. And Mike Judge — the guy responsible for “Beavis and Butt-head” and “Office Space” — is back with “Extract,” which sympathizes with a tough-luck boss.
