This week, gifts for teens are No. 1 on the Salvation Army's wish list.
To meet the increased demand for its Toyland Days toy-distribution program for low-income families, the Salvation Army has extended into Thursday the hours needy shoppers can peruse its selection of toys.
Toyland Days is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army's Lied Renaissance Center, 3612 Cuming St.
Donations of gifts and cash can be dropped off at any Omaha fire station or the Salvation Army through Thursday morning.
More than 2,000 families who have requested and qualified for assistance from the Salvation Army have been invited to shop for free toys at the distribution center. Some 1,700 families qualified and shopped last year.
Toyland Days gives parents the chance to select age- and gender-appropriate toys for their children's Christmas presents.
The gifts have been collected through community drives and the Salvation Army Angel Trees. Toyland also receives support from the Salvation Army's Tree of Lights Campaign.
