Museum offers kids unplugged fun
A day of fun with yo-yos, Slinkies, hula hoops and Slapjack awaits kids who sign up for “Games Grandma and Grandpa Played” on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Stuhr Museum in Grand Island.
Specially designed for students in second grade and up on winter break, the event will include an afternoon of unplugged, imaginative playtime with games popular 50 years ago. Participants will learn checkers, Wahoo, dominos, Pick-Up Sticks, Concentration, Go Fish and more from Stuhr teachers.
Kids will get a bag of games to take home, including a deck of cards, a yo-yo, tangram patterns and more.
The cost is $15 for Stuhr Museum members and $20 for nonmembers. Only 30 spots are available, so reservations are advised.

Kwanzaa and more at local libraries
Omaha Public Libraries will offer activities for kids looking for fun next week.
On Monday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Washington Library, 2868 Ames Ave., invites families from all over to celebrate and learn about Kwanzaa at the Annual Kwanzaa Celebration. Young adults will show groups of kids the items used to set up a Kwanzaa table and explain why each one is important.
On Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sorensen Library, 4808 Cass St., teens are invited to Teen Christmas Movie Day. Free popcorn will be provided.
Also on Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the W. Dale Clark Library, 215 S. 15th St., is Winter Vacation Teen Gaming Day. Those ages 12 through 19 are invited to the library to hang out with friends, play Wii games, PlayStation Rock Band or Guitar Hero or surf the Internet. This event will be held in the computer training lab.

Gather the family for a holiday classic
Film Streams at the Ruth Sokolof Theater will give families the chance to see a holiday classic on the big screen this Christmas with screenings of Frank Capra's “It's a Wonderful Life.”
Beginning on Christmas Day, the 1946 film starring James Stewart as George Bailey will be presented with a free gift of small popcorn with every purchased ticket.
“It's a Wonderful Life” will screen through Thursday, Dec. 31, at the following times:
Friday: 4 p.m., 6:40 p.m., 9:15 p.m.
Saturday: 3 p.m., 6 p.m., 8:45 p.m.
Sunday: 12 p.m., 6 p.m., 8:45 p.m.
Monday: 4 p.m., 6:40 p.m., 9:15 p.m.

‘Sesame' pals share an adventure
Let your kids end the year with some of their favorite TV friends when Sesame Street Live's “1-2-3 Imagine! With Elmo and Friends” hits the stage next week.
The show will have kids singing and dancing with Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and all their favorite Sesame Street stars as they are transported to faraway places.
See Ernie captain the high seas, Elmo dance to the rhythm of the African rainforest and Bert meet an octopus with the blues.
The show takes the stage at Qwest Center Omaha on Wednesday at 7 p.m.; Dec. 31 at 10:30 a.m.; Jan. 2 at 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; and Jan. 3 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets range from $14 to $30 and are available at the box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.
