    California-style homecoming

10:17 p.m.: Several Huskers have returned to their home state for this season's final game, a reunion they've been looking forward to ever since they learned NU was headed to San Diego.

Three players listed on Nebraska's roster are from the San Diego. Five others grew up in the Los Angeles area, roughly a 2-hour drive away.

For senior center Jacob Hickman's fan club, it'll take around four hours to make the drive straight south from Bakersfield, Calif. But few are deterred, Hickman said.

“It's cool to kind of end it where I began,” he said. “I've got everyone in the family, extended family, friends (coming). It's a good deal for me.”

Menelik Holt, from San Diego, played his final high school game at Qualcomm Stadium. So when he takes the field for Wednesday's Holiday Bowl against Arizona, he'll be ending his collegiate career in the same venue.

And he'll have supporters there too.

“I think it's good to be back,” Holt said. “(I) get to see a lot of family. A lot more people who never got to see me play get to come to the game.”
