OMAHA -- 12/15/09: Angela Cassette and her five favorite things: her violin, Blackberry, pro football, a tea set from China and Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." REBECCA S. GRATZ/THE WORLD-HERALD

MY FIVE

Angela Cassette is arguably the most important member of the Omaha Symphony you didn't see at last weekend's Christmas with the Symphony concerts. Cassette, 27, is the symphony's new general manager. Trained as a violinist at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music, she's charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the orchestra. When she's not putting in 15-hour days working on symphony shows, she enjoys these five things:

1. Violin. San Francisco violin maker Francis Kuttner created this instrument in 1984.

“It has the big sound that I crave.”

2. “Pride and Prejudice.”

“I love Jane Austen's style and subtle sense of humor.”

3. Panthers sweatshirt. The Charlotte, N.C., native is a football fanatic.

“I love to spend Sunday afternoons and Monday nights watching games.”

4. Tea set.

“One of my favorite things is to travel, and this tea set reminds me of a trip to China.”

5. BlackBerry.

“It's a geek thing.”
