Omaha Skutt quarterback Christian Dudzik, shown scoring a touchdown against Aurora in the Class B state football championship, has committed to play at North Dakota State.

    Dudzik commits to Bison

Christian Dudzik calls his college decision “a load off my shoulders.” And not just for the obvious reasons.

The Omaha Skutt senior found himself in the middle of a recruiting battle between Football Championship Series rivals North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

“They were kind of going at it when they were calling me and recruiting me,” Dudzik said with a laugh.

In the end, the All-Nebraska safety pick chose NDSU and former Nebraska defensive coordinator Craig Bohl, now the head coach of the Bison.

Dudzik, who also was a standout quarterback for the SkyHawks, said he's impressed by the momentum Bohl and his staff have created in their past two recruiting classes.

“I'm their 19th or 20th commitment at this point, which was really impressive to me,” he said. “When I was talking to SDSU, they were at one or two. It sounds like they (North Dakota State) have a pretty good class, and that's coming off what they consider their best class ever the year before. I want to be a part of that.”

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Dudzik led Skutt to the state championship game this season. He had more than 3,000 yards of total offense on the season.

“I'm definitely going to miss playing offense,” he said. “But I'm definitely excited to go play safety and go out there and hit.”

    Marsh honored by Gatorade

Bronson Marsh is Nebraska's Gatorade football player of the year.

The All-Nebraska team's honorary co-captain led Millard South to its first Class A title since 1995 with a 13-0 season. He broke the state's 11-man career passing record.

“Clearly he's the most valuable player in the state,'' said Tom Jaworski, Creighton Prep's coach. “He's very difficult to defend.''

    Central sophomore receives mat honor

Omaha Central's Keygan Foster has been named the Metro Conference's wrestler of the week for the first two weeks by league coaches.

The sophomore, ranked No. 1 at 103, won titles at a pair of prestigious tournaments in the season's opening weekends. Foster took home championships at both the Vern Ekfelt and Boys Town invitationals, registering five victories by fall and one by major decision.
