DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Drivers in Des Moines will likely have to deal with more potholes and less resurfacing next spring because snow crews have dug deep into their budget for two major storms early in the season.
Des Moines Public Works Director Bill Stowe says his department has already used two-thirds of its snow removal budget after a blizzard in December and a second storm around Christmas Day.
The department has $3 million budgeted for snow removal. The first storm forced snow crews to burn through almost half of that, and a second storm cost another $700,000.
Statewide, plows have used nearly 38 percent of their annual salt supply.
