CLARINDA, Iowa — It was a record-setting year for the Operation Blessing program sponsored by the Clarinda Police Department.
“We set a record for donations received in terms of money and gift items received,” Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers said.
As a result, the Clarinda Police Department was able to provide Christmas gifts for 101 Clarinda children. Last year the program assisted about 80 children. Meanwhile, the Page County Sheriff’s Department also enjoyed a very successful year with its Operation Blessing program.
That program provided gifts for 63 children living in the smaller communities and unincorporated areas of Page County.
“We appreciate all the donations that were received. Without the support we receive this program would not be possible,” Page County Sheriff Lyle Palmer said.
Brothers agreed that the support received from civic organizations, businesses and local residents is the key to being able to provide a merry Christmas for the children assisted through the program.
“Once again the community got behind the program, and without the support of the people it’s not possible,” Brothers said.
Both Palmer and Brothers said the families of the children registered for the respective programs were appreciative of the assistance, given the challenging economic conditions.
“Several people admitted they would not have had a Christmas if it wasn’t for the program,” Brothers said.
