Crash victim wasn’t in a child seat
A 2-year-old girl died Monday afternoon after she was thrown from a car.
The crash occurred about 12:40 p.m., approximately 1½ miles south of Uehling on U.S. Highway 77, Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen said.
Jess Ramirez, 18, of Uehling, was driving a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo south when he tried to pass a vehicle and lost control of the car, Hespen said. The car went into a ditch and rolled.
Alleecia Moerker, the 2-year-old, was not in a child seat and was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.
Ramirez and 17-year-old Samantha Ramirez, both of Uehling, were treated for minor injuries at the hospital. Neither of them was wearing a seat belt.
Hespen said it was a tough crash for deputies to investigate.
"It’s another tragic reminder of how important it is to wear seat belts and keep the kids in the proper restraint seat to ensure their safety," he said. — Bob Glissmann
