Motorists who park on snow emergency routes in Omaha will be subject to having their vehicles towed, the Mayor's Office said this afternoon.
Mayor Jim Suttle had said this morning that the parking ban was "voluntary" and that vehicles would not be towed.
But Ron Gerard, the mayor's spokesman, later clarified that statement and said vehicles could be removed if they are parked on snow emergency routes.
Those routes generally are the city's main and secondary streets. The parking ban does not apply to residential streets.
Suttle declared a snow emergency in Omaha this morning. It was effective immediately.
The mayor made the declaration as the city continues clearing snow from last week's storm, which dumped more than 11 inches of snow on the city.
Omaha has received 24 inches of snow so far this month.
