KEARNEY, Neb. — A 35-year-old woman faces at least three months in jail if convicted of slamming her car into two parked tractors on a Kearney dealership's lot.
Lawrie Powers of Gibbon is charged in Buffalo County Court with third-offense driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs after the Nov. 24 incident at Kearney Implement.
Early that day, Powers was driving west on East U.S. Highway 30 near the John Deere dealership when she drove partway onto the median, authorities said. She over-corrected and went across Highway 30 traffic, struck a power pole and broke it off.
Authorities said Powers continued into the steep ditch, went airborne and crashed into two tractors parked along the ditch on the dealership lot. The car first hit a 2002 8330 John Deere tractor, then struck a 1980 4840 John Deere tractor, and came to rest on top of a tractor.
Damage to the tractors was estimated at $42,000, while damage to the power pole was estimated at $1,500.
Court records indicate Powers has previous DUI convictions in March 2001 and January 2003. If convicted, she faces three months to one year in jail and a fine in addition to losing her driver’s license.
