The Iowa State Patrol is working to rescue a tractor-trailer rig full of cattle that overturned along Interstate 29 on Thursday morning and had been inaccessible due to road conditions.
Troopers weren't yet sure of how many cattle were in the trailer or of their condition, said Lt. Brad Pollard, but more would be clear as the rescue continued.
The accident occurred near the Monona and Woodbury county line in the northwest part of the state.
Poor visibility and icy roads caused the tractor trailer to run off the road and flip onto its side, and while the driver was unhurt, further accidents at the site during the day made towing the vehicle too treacherous to attempt.
Pollard said that they would know more as the towing process progressed.
