State Sen. John Nelson

Critics blast wrong Sen. Nelson

LINCOLN (AP) — A Nebraska senator has received hundreds of e-mails criticizing his vote in favor of the national health care reform bill.

But he has never cast a vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

John Nelson is a state senator from Omaha -- and he says people have been confusing him with U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson ever since the Nebraska Democrat cast a key vote last month to advance the reform package.

For the record, John Nelson disagrees with Ben Nelson's vote but says he doesn't envy the “intense pressure” the U.S. senator has received from both sides.

As for the confusion, John Nelson says he's discovered that many people don't know who their state or U.S. senators are, but at least they're interested in issues of the day.
