If you have half an hour: Go karting. At Joe's Karting in Council Bluffs, an indoor track, you have to pay an annual $7 membership fee to race. The fee gets you a headsock (a black stocking cap) and guarantees you a free race on your birthday. An 8-minute race is called a Hot Laps Session and features 15 laps around the 750-foot road course. If you have an hour: Holy smokes, Batman. Artist Jam is this Saturday. Comic artists will draw superheroes from noon until 8 p.m. at Krypton Comics, 2819 South 125th Ave. The free event is open to the public. Information: 391-4131

If you have two hours: Watch local singers battle for a Valentine's Day gig. In an “American Idol”-style contest, people will audition at 7 p.m. Friday at Firewater Grill, 7007 Grover Street, for a singing spot at the Midwest Smooth Jazz Society's Night of Romance event on Feb. 13 at the Hilton Omaha. Audience members (people eating or hanging out at the restaurant) do the voting. Winners will get cash prizes. Information: 658-4526.

If you have a few hours: The men of Playgirl are in town. They'll put on a show Friday at the Attic Bar & Grill, near 33rd and Harney Streets. Tickets are $15 in advance, and $25 day of show. Information: 932-5387.

If you have a few hours: Get mesmerized by psychedelic dreads. Funk legends George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic perform Friday at the Whiskey Roadhouse at Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs. Tickets for Friday's 8 p.m. show are $34.50. Information: whiskeyroadhouse.frontgatetickets.com

If you have an evening off: See the midget wrestling smackdown. The Extreme Midget Wrestling Federation will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the New Lift, formerly Murphy's Lounge, near 96th and L Streets. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 day of show. Information: 339-7170.
