Rock Candy: Fox-y show at Slowdown and Frate and Keen, too

Our Fox

Slowdown is kicking off a series of free Thursday night shows tonight with a performance by Our Fox and others. Our Fox is a rock band consisting of former members of Neva Dinova and The ’89 Chicago Cubs. According to its MySpace page, the band “could be the 26th best band in town.” The Thursday night series continues next week with Fortnight and on Feb. 11 with Rock Paper Dynamite.

Details: With The Mynabirds, Jake Bellows and DJ Tyrone Storm at 9 tonight at Slowdown. No cover.

Third Frate

This group counts The Black Crowes, Aerosmith and Jet among its influences. That’s apparent when you listen to such tracks as “Hang On Let Go” and “I’m What You Came Here to Do,” bluesy, down and dirty rock tunes. Before Friday’s show at the Barley Street Tavern, check out the aforementioned songs and others at myspace.com/thirdfrate.

Details: 9 p.m. Friday at Barley Street Tavern. $5 cover.

The Show Is the Rainbow

Darren Keen is about to take his one-man show on the road to New Zealand, but he planned one last show before he leaves, with a band this time. Get yourself down the road to Lincoln to see Keen perform as The Show Is the Rainbow, one of the most entertaining and unusual things you’ll ever see onstage with songs such as “Women Are Not Food” and “Up a Creek Without a Saddle.”

Details: With Gold Lions, Sol Residue, Scroggins & Clarf at 9 p.m. at the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln. $5 cover.
