Tickets: $7 children, $9.75 adults; call 345-0606.
The Omaha Symphony’s next family concert –– this Sunday at the Holland Performing Arts Center –– will take up where the last one left off.
Last October, the symphony ended its “Symphony Spooktacular” concert with Darth Vader conducting the orchestra in John Williams’ “Imperial March” from “Star Wars.”
On Sunday afternoon, music director Thomas Wilkins will open his concert with the “Imperial March.”
Lord Vader, however, will not be in attendance.
“I don’t use props in my family concerts,” said Wilkins. “I want kids to use their imaginations.”
This weekend’s concert, called “Driving Forces,” explores music’s motivational powers.
“We’ll demonstrate how composers use melody to get their points across,” Wilkins said. “We’ll also show how they use harmony to work on our emotions.”
The program will feature Rossini’s “William Tell Overture,” Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance No. 1 and music from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The orchestra will also perform music from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
