7:54 p.m.: We take a break from final days of 2010 recruiting news to bring you this headline about Nebraska's class of 2011: The Huskers have a quarterback. Junior Jamal Turner of Arlington, Texas, accepted an NU offer today, delivering the news to running backs coach Tim Beck.
Turner, 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds of Sam Houston High School, has accounted for a school-record 7,148 yards of total offense and 62 touchdowns in two years as a starter. He ammassed 4,095 yards as a junior last fall, including 2,032 rushing yards.
He attended the NU-Oklahoma game in November at Memorial Stadium and the Big 12 championship game in his hometown before following the Huskers to San Diego to watch the Holiday Bowl.
"I'm extremely excited," Turner said. "Other schools would come to talk to me, and I would show no interest. Then coach Beck would come, and we'd play and laugh. I fell in love with him as a recruiting coach.
"I just feel like a big Husker."
Other schools to offer scholarships included Oklahoma, Texas A&M and TCU.
He is the Huskers' third pledge for the 2011 class, joining offensive linemen Ryne Reeves of Crete, Neb., and Tyler Moore of Clearwater, Fla.
