FORT WORTH, Texas — ’Tis the year to dream about escaping that daily grind and trading it in for a tropical adventure. The counselors of color at Pantone, who consult with those in the home, fashion, beauty and advertising industries, once again have announced their “color of the year.” In 2010, Americans are all about “15-5519 turquoise.”
This particular shade of turquoise leans just a bit more toward green than blue. It’s a soothing, spalike tone.
“The color of the year is chosen thoughtfully,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “with the mood of the country in mind and what people are looking for ... world events and the arts are pulse points for those involved in the color industries.”
Fashion designers, she said, are asked about their color choices for the season as well (and they recommend pairing turquoise with navy for a classic look, with neutrals, or with a tomato puree tone or corals or pinks for an animated combination).
In Pantone’s ongoing color-word association studies, consumers are asked questions such as “How does turquoise make you feel?” Invariably, the responses regarding turquoise include escape, tropical vacation and a place to get away to.
