UNMC Haiti relief goal: $100,000

The Associated Press

The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha has set a goal to raise $100,000 for relief efforts in Haiti.

The UNMC Haitian Relief and Outreach Fund, set up through the University of Nebraska Foundation, has raised about $10,000. The fund supports relief missions such as the one undertaken by 13 medical center volunteers who arrived in Haiti last weekend.

UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, hope to send several groups of volunteers to assist in Haiti, which suffered a catastrophic earthquake on Jan. 12.

Nick Hall, a Nebraska Medical Center nurse who is in Haiti, says there is a major need for more bedside nurses to assist with wound care.
