Forum for those served by VA Medical Center

A new program offers veterans who receive health care services at the VA Medical Center in Omaha a chance to learn about a health topic and to offer feedback to facility leadership.

The veterans forum will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Education Conference Room on the first floor of the medical center, 4101 Woolworth Ave. The forum is open to veterans who receive services at the medical center.

The veterans health promotion coordinator of the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System will present a program called “Celebrating American Heart Month: Take Care of Your Heart.”

Veterans with questions about the forum can call Maggie Oldham, deputy public affairs officer, at 995-5547.

When should infertile stop treatments?

Coping with Infertility offers strategies and support for people dealing with the stress of infertility.

Thursday's topic will be “When Enough Is Enough.” Discussion will focus on knowing when it is time to stop medical treatments, to pursue alternative routes or to make decisions about adoption.

The group meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month in the library at Faith Westwood United Methodist Church, 4814 Oaks Lane.

No preregistration is required and there is no cost to attend.

Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska pageant

Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska celebrates the accomplishments and abilities of women who use wheelchairs. Applications are due before Feb. 28 for contestants to compete in the 2010 pageant, which will be March 27 at the Interstate Holiday Inn in Grand Island.

The goal is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement who use wheelchairs for mobility to educate and advocate for all individuals with disabilities. Competitors must be between the ages of 21 and 60 and use a wheelchair for 100 percent of their daily mobility. An ability to communicate with the public, government agencies, local businesses and organizations is a key element.

Free chiropractic consultations

Family practice chiropractors nationwide are providing free health consultations and services to help Get Your ESS in Shape.

The aim is to spread information about the three key components of fitness: endurance, strength and structure, or ESS.

A free Health Is a Journey Workshop will run from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Koca Chiropractic, 2085 N. 120th St. Free health and fitness information, complimentary spinal screenings and chiropractic care will be offered to interested children, teens, adults and senior citizens. No appointment is necessary.

PAC Band in concert with TV personalities

The Papillion Area Concert Band will present "Weather, News and Sports with the PAC Band" on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The performance at Papillion-La Vista High School will feature the PAC Band and four television personalities: Rob McCartney from KETV-Channel 7 will be master of ceremonies; Dave Webber from WOWT-Channel 6 will sing a solo; JJ Davis from KPTM-Channel 42 will recite a poem; and CT Thongklin from KMTV-Channel 3 will play violin.

The concert will come during the Papillion Area Lions Club's spaghetti feed fundraiser. The feed runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children. There will be additional entertainment from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
