Two shooting incidents, including one outside a Bellevue night club that was preceded by a large fight, sent two victims to area hospitals early Sunday.
Bellevue police, troopers from the Nebraska State Patrol and deputies with the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office responded to Sunday morning's first shooting, which occurred just after 1 a.m. outside Rumors Restaurant and Lounge near the intersection of Fort Crook and Capehart Roads in Bellevue.
On weekends, the bar typically hosts a dance party that often draws 300 to 400 people to the building, said Sgt. Matthew Jarvis of the Bellevue Police Department. Saturday night was no exception.
Security guards from the club had to use pepper spray to break up a large fight that started at the club just before midnight. Then, close to an hour later, two Bellevue officers near the club heard numerous gunshots ring out from the southwest corner of the lot.
The officers had to fight against crowds of panicked bystanders to reach the scene, where they found vehicles with shot-out windows but no victim.
Shortly thereafter, though, Omaha police officers were called to Creighton University Medical Center to speak with a man in his early 20s who said he'd been shot at the club. Police hadn't identified the victim by Sunday evening. His injuries weren't considered life-threatening, and police don't have any suspects.
At about 1:59 a.m., Omaha officers were called to 3719 N. 38th Street to investigate another shooting.
Hassan Majied of Hastings, Neb., told officers that he was sitting outside that location in a vehicle when it was struck by gunfire and he was shot.
Majied, 43, called 911 and was taken to Creighton University Medical Center with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Police said that officers found no evidence of a crime at the address and that the victim gave few details.
Police had little new information Sunday on a shooting that occurred early Saturday.
After 2 a.m. Saturday, 26-year-old Jermaine Lucas was dropped off at the Creighton hospital. Lucas told police he was walking near Fontenelle Boulevard and Laurel Avenue when he was shot by an somebody in a vehicle.
Police couldn't find evidence of a crime in that area either and said Lucas was uncooperative throughout the investigation.
