Infogroup lays off 40 managers

Infogroup, which is in the process of a companywide reorganization, laid off 40 employees, including high-level managers Monday and today, a move that spokeswoman Lisa Olson said will "remove layers" with overlapping responsibilities.

"This is a continuation of our efforts to rationalize the business and strengthen our ‘go to market' strategy," she said. "With this alignment, we are moving away from a product siloed company to a customer centric organization to ensure we align customer needs with our full product offerings."

Olson said she didn't know how many of the layoffs will occur at the company's Omaha operations. About 1,500 workers are employed at the Papillion technology center, company headquarters in Omaha and a Carter Lake complex that houses a data center, shipping and warehouse operations and salespeople.

A number of the job losses were in Infogroup's non-subscription sales division, national accounts and database group, said sources with knowledge of the layoffs who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Those operations are in Omaha.

Among the managers losing their jobs were Rakesh Gupta, executive vice president and general manager of product group, who is no relation to company founder Vin Gupta; Tim Buechler, senior vice president of operations; Amy Rongisch, senior vice president of product management; and Jeff Ferris, senior vice president of vertical markets.

The Omaha-based company has about 3,700 employees worldwide. Last year, it invited companies interested in purchasing all or part of its assets to submit bids, which Infogroup reportedly still is considering.
