Members of Aktion Club, a service organization for adults with disabilities, assembled health kits for Haiti Tuesday afternoon at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church.
About 12 members of the club, which was established by Mosaic and Kiwanis Club of Omaha, met to assemble kits that included hand towels, wash clothes, toothbrushes, bars of soap, nail clippers, Band-Aids and combs.
Club president Stephanie Baird said it was important to help the people of Haiti.
Club member Ron Urick was putting together a care package at one of the tables, folding the various items into a green hand towel.
“I think it'll be nice for the people down there who lost everything,” he said.
Steve Rock, club vice president, said it was important to get involved.
“Haiti lost a lot of things,” he said. “It's important for us to get out there and reach out to those people and give them things that they can use.”
The care packages will be sent to Lutheran World Relief for distribution, said Brittney Ryba of Mosaic, an organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities.
“The Aktion Club is to provide an opportunity to adults living with disabilities to give something back to the community,” said Jim Farrell, past president of Kiwanis.
Kiwanis Club of Omaha donated $150 to purchase items for the project.
