    FOOTBALL

    Jay Guy

    Position: Defensive tackle

    Height/weight: 6-1, 300

    Hometown/School: Aldine, Texas (Eisenhower)

Did you know?: Three Eisenhower teammates were set to sign with FBS programs, including outside linebacker Cqulin Hubert with Texas Tech.

Coachspeak: “The four years he was here, he was one of those kids you never had to say anything to. He never missed a workout. And for a big kid, he has a lot of drive. His motor runs every play.” — Eisenhower coach Ray Evans

The gurus say: Guy ranks 33rd nationally among defensive tackles by Scout.com, 36th by Scouts, Inc., and 64th by Rivals.com. An all-district pick for three straight years, he was also among 10 finalists in 2008 and 2009 for the Touchdown Club of Houston defensive player of the year.

About Guy: A stout run-stopper at the high school level, Guy joined Chase Rome and Jermarcus Hardrick as January newcomers at Nebraska. According to his prep coach, Guy switched his study emphasis to allow for an early graduation in December. “That's the type of kid he is,” Evans said. “He's always had an eye on the future. When Jay came in as a freshman, they were district champs, and he could have played on the varsity.”

Our take: The former Cal pledge only adds to the no-nonsense element of the Nebraska's defensive front. D-linemen rarely enroll early, and the Huskers have two this year, who seem to be raring to go. Think the success of Ndamukong Suh and his mates has anything to do with that?
