    RECRUITING

Creighton Prep's Reeves is now a Hoosier

Goalkeeper Taylor Reeves got rid of his Wisconsin gear.

The Creighton Prep senior has switched Big 10 schools because of a coaching change, and is now planning to attend Indiana University.

He was one of several athletes at Prep to sign letters of intent today.

When the Hoosiers' Mike Freitag was let go in December, Wisconsin coach Todd Yeagley decided to return to the school where his father had once coached and where he attended college and had been an assistant. He asked Reeves if he'd like to come along.

“I went out and visited Jan. 11 and committed there that night,'' Reeves said. “Indiana has such a history and tradition in soccer that it was kind of a hard thing not to pass up going there.''

Reeves said he liked the small-town atmosphere of Bloomington. Coaches also told him he'd be able to fight for a starting spot.

“It was kind of a hard-to-beat situation,'' he said.

At Millard West, the list of signees has gotten so large that the Wildcats switched the ceremony from the foyer of the auditorium to the auditorium itself.

Nineteen athletes signed letters of intent today after a class of 14 girls in the fall.

Athletic Director Rick Hook said the fact that Millard West was The World-Herald's Class A all-sports champion as well as the NSAA's President's Cup winner for both sports and activities explains the large class.

“That tells you a little bit of where we are at with the quality of student athlete we have,'' he said.

Millard West won both the girls and boys state soccer titles last spring and the Wildcats have several athletes who signed Division I letters in that sport. Megan Merrill is going to Nebraska, Chelsey Poole to South Dakota State, Claire Wiese to Loyola of Chicago, Andrew Kallman to Drake and Cody Thayer to Virginia Tech.

David Poots and Anthony Pittman are headed to Nebraska on track and cross country scholarships.

Omaha Marian also had a record number of athletes signing with eight after having seven in the fall. Seven from Ed Dudley's soccer team are signing: Amelia Ambrose, Loyola Chicago; Monica Bosiljevac, UNO; Kelly Lange, Wayne State; Ellen McCormick, Wyoming; Melanie McCormick, UNO; Margaret Powers, Iowa State; and Logen Watts, UNO.

“I told Ed they better be really good this year,'' Athletic Director Jim Miller said.
