MISSOURI VALLEY — The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge will be open to bow turkey hunting from April 12 through May 16. A refuge permit is required and can be obtained free at the refuge’s visitor center.
The permit includes a map showing the areas where archers can hunt. All hunters must be properly licensed and carry the refuge access permit while hunting.
On April 17 and 18, the refuge will offer a wild turkey hunt for youths and hunters with mobility impairments. Interested youths may apply for the hunt by sending in their name, address and telephone number.
Applications should be sent to DeSoto Refuge, 1434 316th Lane, Missouri Valley, IA 51555. A random drawing for the limited slots will be March 2.
The refuge is 25 miles north of Omaha on U.S. Highway 30, between Missouri Valley and Blair, Neb. The visitor center is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, except on federal holidays. For more information contact 712-642-4121.
