An 18-year-old woman punched an Omaha police officer Thursday afternoon outside Benson High School.

The woman went to the school about 1 p.m. with her cousin, who is a student there, because of a problem the cousin had been having with another student.

According to the police report, the woman began arguing with the other student, which caused a crowd to gather. Officer Joe Svacina began trying to diffuse the situation and prevent a fight.

Svacina kept the crowd back as the woman started to dance and taunt the crowd, trying to work the crowd into an "uncontrollable frenzy," according to the report.

She started to leave the building, but started dancing again. She left as Svacina ordered her to stop so that he could issue a disorderly conduct citation. She refused to stop and continued walking to her car. Svacina grabbed her hoodie, and she turned and punched him in the cheek.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of felony third-degree assault on an officer, among other charges. She was taken to the Douglas County Jail.
