    MEN'S BASKETBALL

    Huskers hanging with KU

5:55 p.m.: LAWRENCE, Kan. — Nebraska just played its best half of basketball this season against good competition.

The Huskers trail No. 1 Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse 37-33, but they have the Jayhawks unsettled and in some foul trouble.

Twice already, KU coach Bill Self has had to call time to settle his team in the wake of a Nebraska run. Self also drew a technical for arguing.

NU is getting help from everywhere. Christian Standhardinger had a 3-point play and hit a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions. Quincy Hankins-Cole, shooting 36.2 percent from the free-throw line, has hit 3 of 5. Brandon Ubel hit back-to-back 3-pointers — his first since Jan. 5 — to bring NU within 33-29.

Brandon Richardson hit 1 of 2 technical foul free throws with 19 seconds left to cut the gap to 37-33, but RIchardson turned the ball over on the ensuing possession.
