Outdoor Notes: Trout group nets $7,000

Cold-water fisheries in Nebraska will be the beneficiaries of most of the roughly $7,000 raised at the annual banquet of Trout Unlimited's Nebraska Chapter 710.

Members also voted to donate a portion of the proceeds to preserve Bristol Bay, Alaska, said Mark Olson, chapter secretary.

Olson said 76 anglers attended the banquet, the chapter's major fundraising event. Attendees watch the award-winning film ‘‘Red Gold'' while bidding on donated fishing items, including two landing nets built by Royce Merrit of Harrisburg, S.D., and a four-day guided fishing trip at the Canyon Creek Guest Ranch donated by Dave Ellingson of Melrose, Mont.

Steve Isom of Valentine, Neb., will review the association's state championship at Merritt Reservoir last summer and share tips on ice fishing at Sand Hills lakes.

The first Go Fish Kids! clinic of the year begins shortly after 4 p.m.

The cost is $40 for association members and $60 for non-members. Youth members (under 16) are free; non-member youths are $10. Registrations must be received by Feb. 15.
