    NU is finalizing assistant pacts

LINCOLN — The reworked contracts for Nebraska football assistant coaches are awaiting paperwork to be finalized before information can be released.

Athletic Director Tom Osborne said through NU sports information Monday that there are no difficulties with the process, just some signatures that still need to be gathered. No time frame has been set for their release.

Osborne said last month that the contracts for Nebraska assistants ran through Jan. 31, and would be “extended and renewed prior to the end of January.’’

The nine Husker assistant coaches were paid just more than $1.925 million combined last year, including offensive coordinator Shawn Watson at $375,000 as the highest-paid assistant in NU football history. That total also reflected more than a 22 percent increase from 2008, the assistants’ first year together under head coach Bo Pelini.

The contracts for assistant coaches do not require approval by the NU Board of Regents, but are signed by Osborne, Pelini, Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Christine Jackson, vice chancellor for business and finance.
