A state trooper and a man suspected of driving a stolen pickup truck each suffered minor injuries when the trooper tried to stop the pickup with his cruiser Sunday night in Council Bluffs, the State Patrol said.
The trooper had been pursuing the pickup for about a minute when he attempted a “pit maneuver” at the interchange of Ninth Avenue and the on-ramp of Interstate 29, Patrol Sgt. Dave Rosenberg said. The maneuver involves using the cruiser to push the rear end of another vehicle, at a low rate of speed, into a slide, Rosenberg said.
The pickup truck was pushed over a curb and rolled onto its top, the sergeant said, while the cruiser slid into a light pole.
Both drivers were treated at a hospital and released.
The pickup driver, who had been sought under arrest warrants, faces multiple charges and was taken to the Pottawattamie County Jail, Rosenberg said. — Susan Szalewski
