Men's Basketball: Big 12 rankings

1. Kansas (23-1, 9-0, 1st)

This week: Iowa State.

The Jayhawks are on the fast track toward a sixth straight Big 12 title after an easy time with Texas.

2. Kansas State (19-4, 6-3, 7th)

This week: Colorado.

The Wildcats likely will be an underdog only once (at Kansas on March 3) in their remaining seven games.

3. Texas A&M (17-6, 6-3, 20th)

This week: at Texas Tech.

The sneaky good Aggies are rebounding better than expected and getting star play from guard Donald Sloan.

4. Missouri (17-6, 5-3, 47th)

This week: Iowa State, at Baylor.

Nobody spreads it around like MU. Seven players average between 7.9 and 15.1 points a game.

5. Baylor (17-5, 4-4, 28th)

This week: at Nebraska, Missouri.

A year ago, the Bears finished regular-season play 17-13 overall and 5-11 in the league.

6. Texas (19-5, 5-4, 21st)

This week: Nebraska.

Five losses in seven games after being No. 1 will put UT in a bad mood when Nebraska visits Saturday.

7. Oklahoma State (16-7, 4-5, 39th)

This week: Oklahoma.

Despite three straight OSU losses, James Anderson’s double-digit scoring streak has grown to 37 in row.

8. Texas Tech (15-7, 3-5, 32nd)

This week: at Oklahoma, Texas A&M.

Junior point guard John Roberson already has broken the Tech career record in assists (436).

9. Oklahoma (13-9, 4-4, 74th)

This week: Texas Tech, at Oklahoma State.

Too bad for the Sooners they ever have to leave home. They are 11-0 there, but 2-9 elsewhere.

10. Iowa State (13-10, 2-6, 114th)

This week: at Missouri, at Kansas.

The Cyclones rose to No. 2 nationally in 3-point shooting last week but are 11 of 50 (22 percent) since.

11. Colorado (11-12, 2-7, 150th)

This week: at Kansas State.

The Buffs are getting closer, having lost Big 12 games by 1 point, 4, 6 and 6 in overtime.

12. Nebraska (13-10, 1-7, 126th)

This week: Baylor, at Texas.

Barry Collier’s 2003 Husker team finished alone in last in league play. That was a first since 1963.
