Cass officals end river search

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (AP) — Cass County authorities have ended their search for the body of a Plattsmouth teenager who they believe jumped off a bridge into the frigid water of the Missouri River.

Lt. Jeff Lickei of the Cass County Sheriff's Office said deputies and Nebraska state troopers and a patrol helicopter resumed the search Tuesday morning in the area around the U.S. Highway 34 bridge.

Lickei says workers on a nearby oil line saw the youth stop his car on the bridge around 3:30 Monday afternoon, get out and jump over the railing.

Lickei says the search is suspended until the body surfaces on its own.

Authorities believe the boy was a 17-year-old student at Plattsmouth High School. Lickei would not release his name.
