A 31-year-old man who coached girls basketball on the Winnebago Indian Reservation has been given two years in prison for having sex with a 13-year-old girl on his team.
A news release from U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Ma-Na-Pe-Xoo-Nu-Ga Cleveland had pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor.
At sentencing on Monday, Judge Laurie Smith Camp Cleveland also gave Cleveland three years of supervised release after prison.
Authorities say Cleveland developed a relationship with the girl after regularly giving her rides home.
Phone records showed that Cleveland exchanged thousands of text messages with her.
Prosecutors say the two had consensual sex in Cleveland’s car in January 2009 and in his office in Winnebago in February 2009.
