Think “Friday Night Lights” on the mat.
That's the picture Todd Hickey paints of his wrestling documentary “Takedowns and Falls,” which will play at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the Dundee Theatre.
Hickey followed a high school wrestling team in Harrisburg, Pa., for six months, chronicling the ups and downs of a group of teenagers and their coach.
“It's something I've always wanted to do,” said Hickey, who wrestled in Pennsylvania for the coach featured in the film.
The documentary opened late last month in Pennsylvania and made its way through four Ohio cities in the first week of screening. Omaha is the seventh stop on a tour. It heads back to the East Coast next week.
Omaha native and Creighton Prep graduate Mike Cavanaugh was a film editor on the project.
“We know that Nebraska has a good wrestling tradition,” Hickey said. “We tried to hit the wrestling hot spots.”
He said those around the project have been thrilled with how it has been received.
“The reaction has been awesome,” Hickey said. “I couldn't really be happier (about) how people are responding to it.”
Tickets are $8 a person and can be purchased at the Dundee Theatre box office.
