Housing bias suit settled

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha condominium association and its former president have agreed to pay more than $127,000 to settle allegations of discrimination against families with children.

The Latvian Tower Condominium Association and its former president, Karl Tegtmeyer, were sued in 2008 and accused of interfering with the sale of one of the tower's units.

The federal government alleged potential buyers were wrongfully turned away during a period from 2005 and 2007 because they had kids.

The Justice Department says the defendants have agreed to pay $112,500 to victims of discrimination and $15,000 to the government as a civil penalty.

The deal awaits court approval.

A phone message left Tuesday for the defendants' attorney wasn't immediately returned.
