MANHATTAN, Kan. — In its previous 80 minutes of basketball, Nebraska had made six 3-point shots in 39 attempts.
In a two-minute stretch late in Wednesday's game against No. 7 Kansas State, NU made 6 of 6 3s. But it still wasn't enough as the Wildcats won 91-87.
Husker senior Ryan Anderson hit 3s with 45 seconds and 32 seconds left to tie the game 87-87 and boost his scoring total to a season-high 22.
“Coach gets all the credit for this one,'' Anderson said. “Did you see what we were running? The strategy was guys coming off baseline screens.
“We tried some different things. Guys got open and knocked the shots down.''
Kansas State guard Jacob Pullen, who saw Nebraska score more points in the first half (40) than any other KSU opponent this season, gave his team's defense a failing grade.
“We played bad defense,'' he said. “It was atrocious. I think that was the worst defense we played all year. When you let Nebraska get in a rhythm like that, you know it's going to be a long night.''
T for two
Nebraska coach Doc Sadler drew a technical foul with the game tied 51-51. K-State's Denis Clemente made both free throws, but Anderson had no problem with his coach hounding the officials.
“That's the good thing about Coach,'' Anderson said. “He's in the game. So I don't blame him.
“Coach has to do what he has to do sometimes. If that's getting a tech, that's what he did. He's intense over there.''
