Farragut, Hamburg merges all sports

The Farragut Admirals and Lady Ads are no more now that the Farragut school board has agreed to share softball, volleyball and basketball with Hamburg.

The districts already have agreed to share baseball, track and football.

Farragut and Hamburg Superintendent Jay Lutt said a forum was held on sharing each sport before this week’s vote.

Members of the Farragut board agreed to share a baseball program with Hamburg at it Feb. 8 meeting but tabled the decision to share softball.

At the Feb. 15 Hamburg school board meeting, members decided to move forward and share volleyball, basketball and softball as well. If the Farragut board didn’t agree to share those sports, then no further sports would be shared.

Lutt said students in grades three through 12 in Hamburg and Farragut will vote on a new combined name and mascot Friday. They will choose from entries solicited through the schools’ Web sites.
