6:05 p.m.: What does Nebraska have in common with three other Big 12 schools as calendars flip to March and it becomes time to talk spring practice in college football?
The Huskers join Texas Tech, Colorado and Baylor as Big 12 teams with two returning quarterbacks who started at least two games last season.
For the Huskers, senior-to-be Zac Lee is back after making 12 starts in 2009 and sophomore Cody Green after making two. The pursuit of the No. 1 job in spring practice won't be the same as the other three Big 12 schools, however, because Lee likely will miss most or all of 15 workouts as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right arm.
The best of the quarterback battles will be at Texas Tech, where new head coach Tommy Tuberville will look at both Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield. Next in line will be at Colorado, where Tyler Hansen will try to hold the starting job he wrestled away from Cody Hawkins last fall.
Baylor returns both Robert Griffin and Nick Florence, but Griffin is the Bears' man once he's fully recovered from the knee injury that stopped his sophomore season last September.
Also in the Big 12, four schools have clear returning starters at quarterback (Missouri, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma) while four others will be looking for new No. 1s (Texas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kansas).
Below are the tentative starting dates for spring practice around the Big 12, with last season's overall and league records in parentheses:
