Mike Boyles of Papillion is part-owner of Netties Fine Mexican Food in Bellevue, where you'll sometimes see him as the host or bookkeeper. We asked the 55-year-old about five of his favorite things.
1. Autographed photo of John Belushi, one of his favorite actors. The framed photo is an example of the many pieces of art in his home.
“He was just so funny in ‘Animal House.' I loved ‘The Blues Brothers' and their music.”
2. Travel with family or friends. He fondly remembers trips with his wife to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. And he loved seeing how his grandson Frank responded when he saw a geyser for the first time at Yellowstone National Park.
3. iPhone, which also holds a selection of his travel photos. On screen here is a photo of Boyles emerging from a lava tube at Craters of the Moon National Monument.
“It's very handy to do just about anything. The GPS when you're in a strange city is just the handiest thing there is.”
4. 2005 Corvette, a surprise gift from his wife on his 50th birthday. She enlisted a Netties' restaurant employee to help her learn what style and color his dream car would be.
5. Emeril Lagasse's cookbook “From Emeril's Kitchens” is his go-to reference when he is cooking at home for family and friends and for the homeless at the Stephen Center. Boyles occasionally makes chowder, meatloaf, cinnamon rolls and more for the 80-or-so who depend upon the Stephen Center for their meals.
