Werner an ‘Admired Company'

Transportation and logistics carrier Werner Enterprises of Omaha has been chosen by Fortune as one of the World's Most Admired Companies. The ranking was based on survey results that rated the company in nine key areas: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of product/services and global competitiveness.

UNK plans job outlook workshop

The University of Nebraska at Kearney plans a job outlook and search tools workshop Monday at the Ockinga Seminar Center. The workshop is co-sponsored by the center and the UNK Office of Academic and Career Services. The hourlong event, which will begin at 4 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Icelanders may vote no

Iceland is bracing for a public backlash against the use of taxpayer money to pay its international debts. Icelanders are expected to deliver a “no” vote in a referendum Saturday on a $5.3 billion deal to compensate Britain and the Netherlands for deposits lost when Iceland's banks collapsed at the height of the global financial crisis.

HP lowers its earnings

Hewlett-Packard has trimmed the net income it reported for its fiscal first quarter. HP now says it earned $2.25 billion, or 93 cents per share. That's down from its earlier reported $2.32 billion, or 96 cents per share. HP is setting aside more cash for a lawsuit filed by the U.K. broadcaster BSkyB.
