She led Sioux City Heelan to two state titles and twice was named captain of the Class 3-A all-tournament team.

Tuesday, Carli Tritz earns her most prestigious basketball honor. The Heelan star and Creighton recruit has been named Iowa’s Miss Basketball.

A statewide panel of sportswriters chose Tritz during the Iowa Newspaper Association’s annual all-state selection meeting Saturday.

This season, Tritz averaged 22.6 points, 6.6 assists and 6.1 steals while leading the Crusaders to a 26-1 season and the 3-A state title. She shot 65.9 percent from the field.

Tritz is one of 15 all-staters from The World-Herald’s western Iowa coverage area.

Six others earned first-team honors: Hallie Christofferson of Exira and Kadie Subbert of Stanton in Class 1-A; Karen Hutson of Logan-Magnolia and Jessie Pauley of OA-BCIG in Class 2-A, Millie Niggeling of Sioux City Heelan in Class 3-A; and Brittni Donaldson of Sioux City North in Class 4-A.

Second-team honors went to Essex’s Joscelyn Coleman in 1-A; Carroll Kuemper’s Kelsey Eischeid and IKM-Manning’s Ashley Hagedorn in 2-A; and Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s Kyley Simmons in 4-A.

Making their respective third team were Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Katie Dentlinger and Treynor’s Tayler Geer in 1-A; Audubon’s Mykel Brannan in 2-A; and Sioux City West’s Summer Gordon in 4-A.
