An Omaha man was hurtled through the driver’s side window of the car he was driving Tuesday after another motorist ran a red light and crashed into his car, police said.

Jeffrey J. Schumacher, 38, was listed in good condition Wednesday morning, according to a spokesperson for Nebraska Medical Center. His condition initially was considered critical.

The crash happened about 5:15 p.m. near 48th and Center Streets.

According to police, Lee Owen Vohs, 25, of Silver City, Iowa, was driving a 1991 Ford Escort westbound on Center Street when he ran a red light and struck Schumacher’s 1998 Mercury Tracer. Schumacher had been southbound on 48th Street, trying to turn east onto Center.

Police ticketed Vohs on suspicion of running a red light.
