BARTLETT, Neb -- Wheeler Central schools' $620,000 bond issue for a new elementary building passed by a wide margin Tuesday.
In unofficial results, the north-central Nebraska district's voters approved the bond, 287-138, according to Wheeler County Clerk Lorraine Woeppel.
Superintendent Alan Ehlers called the vote “a huge step for the future.”
“It just shows how much support and belief that the county has not only in its education system, but also in the entire county,” he said.
The new building will replace the district's current K-3 building, which has widespread water damage, fire code violations and space shortages.
The new 60-foot-by-90-foot steel building will include two classrooms to house those grades, as well as the district's K-12 library, elementary computer lab, distance learning room, special education and preschool programs.
