Women's hoops: K-State up next for undefeated Huskers

2:05 p.m.: Nebraska now knows that it will face Kansas State in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals Friday morning, but the Huskers don't really have too much time to prepare.

The top-seeded NU women's team sat in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium today, watching as the Wildcats defeated No. 8 seed Texas Tech 59-51 and advanced out of the opening round.

The Huskers (29-0) should be very familiar with K-State, considering the two teams just met Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. The Wildcats (14-17) held an 11-point first half lead, but NU battled back for the convincing 82-72 win.

They'll play again at 11 a.m. Friday. Nebraska, ranked No. 3 nationally, has a full-length practice scheduled for this afternoon.

But don't expect any drastic changes to the game plan. Coach Connie Yori said earlier this week that the crammed tourney schedule doesn't allow for wholesale philosophy alterations.

“You're going to tweak a few things, but you don't have a lot of time to make adjustments when you're not real sure who you're going to play,” Yori said. “We basically have (this) afternoon to do that, after the game takes place. And then, try to figure out what direction we want to go with that. We have some ideas.”

Nebraska pulled away from the Wildcats on Jan. 23 in Lincoln, winning that game 71-56. But Yori said that the match-up isn't entirely one-sided.

“We have a pretty good idea of what they do, but they have a great idea of what we do as well,” she said. “In both games against K-State, those could have gone in either direction.”
